About the SLB indiana scholarship fund
Founded in 1986 at the University of Iowa, Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc is a Latino-based fraternal organization with multi-cultural beliefs. Guided by our principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, Community Service and Cultural Awareness, the Brothers of Sigma Lambda Beta contribute to the advancement of the Latino community and continue to work on initiatives that promote social empowerment and promote the value of education.
The national organization established local chapters at Indiana University in Bloomington in 1989, and Purdue University Northwest and Purdue University-West Lafayette in 1993. From this union of chapters, the Elite State of Indiana was forged. We have continued to work together to nurture and further a dynamic, values-based environment which utilizes our historically Latino-based fraternity as a catalyst to better serve the needs and wants of all people.
In 2018, the Brothers of the Elite State of Indiana in partnership with the We CAN Achieve Foundation* established the Indiana Scholarship Fund (ISF) organization to leverage resources and provide financial support to aspiring male students in their pursuits of higher education. With support from the We CAN Achieve Foundation, the ISF created an endowment fund with an initial $5,000 investment that is expected to grow. Interest accrued from the account provides funding for scholarship awards on an annual basis. ISF Board Members lead the effort to continue building the fund through contributions from current and future alumni members of Sigma Lambda Beta, corporate donations, fundraising events, and the general public.
After the first year of interest from the endowment fund was available for distribution, the Indiana Scholarship Fund launched the Elite Scholar Award program. The program provides scholarships to incoming freshman, sophomore and junior gentlemen enrolled in one of three schools: Indiana University, Bloomington - Purdue University, West Lafayette - Purdue University Northwest.
*The We CAN Achieve Foundation is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
